RAQTweak: BlueQuartz experts!


An introduction: It all started in 1996, when Cobalt Networks was founded.


One of their first products was the Qube2700, a small, blue qube with a green LED in the front. This was an all in one office server, mainly for E-Mail for one domain (e.g.: the office).
A bit later, they introduced a 1U server appliance which was designed for the webhosting business: The Cobalt RaQ. Many versions would follow. The RaQ4 was became a huge success. The successor of the RaQ4, the RaQ XTR, was a complete disaster however. The initial release, featuring a 733Mhz or 933Mhz CPU had major hardware issues which could lead to data corruption. Most were called back and replaced with the 2nd generation XTR's: 850Mhz and 1000Mhz CPUs.

At around this time, Sun Microsystems acquired Cobalt Networks. The Cobalt group (at Sun) finished the development of the Qube3 and RaQ550, both based on the same "sausalito architecture". After quite a few RaQ550's were sold, Sun Microsystems decided to discontinue the Cobalt line and immediately terminated software support and updates for the Qube2700, Qube2, and RaQ1-4 + XTR. The Qube3 and RaQ550 would be supported for a little while, allegedly until 2007.

On the 23rd of December 2003, Sun Cobalt released the Qube3 and RaQ550 source code under the BSD license. Ever since, programmers have been modifying and improving the code. Of course RaQTweak has also further developed the RaQ550 code (read more about that on our RACKSTAR page.
Another group of developers, the "Cobalt Qube"-group from Japan also started improving the RaQ550 and Qube 3 code. They call it: BlueQuartz.

The project was going a little slow until

Nuonce released their BlueQuartz / CentOS ISO installer
